The house is between Farmoor village and Cumnor village and is in an amazing location. We are right on the Thames Path (60 second walk to the river) and right beside Farmoor Reservoir. Perfect for walking and river life (swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, etc.).
The house is an old large 4-bedroom farmhouse, spread over 3 floors and built in 1650. There is a large kitchen, dining room (with a wood-burning stove), living room (with a wood-burning stove), 4-bedrooms, 1 spare room (which is generally used for laundry and exercise, 1 bathroom and 2 toilets, as well as a beautiful garden, with a big old yew tree. There is also a shed/outhouse for tools, bikes and some storage, as well as a free-standing wooden shed. The house backs out onto fields. It is well-lived in, old, rustic, country-type house so would not suit somebody looking for something modern, spotless and slick!
The room is a large double on the 2nd floor and is 4.9m x 4.6m and is carpeted. It also looks out onto the garden.
We’re looking for a female housemate who firstly, must love dogs and secondly wants to make it a home. Preferably someone who enjoys nature and the outdoors and would appreciate living somewhere where there is such easy access to these things. You will probably need a car for accessibility, although Oxford city centre is only a 25-30 minute cycle, depending on how fast your legs can carry you. It is 5.8 miles to Gloucester Green. The nearest bus stop is in Farmoor and is a 20-25 minute walk along the reservoir or river. We live at the end of a Private Road so there is no through traffic although we do get lots of walkers that come down the road to access the river. There are only 6 houses in total down the private road and all the neighbours are super friendly; there’s a nice vibe here.
We currently have different eating schedules, but have an occasional house meal on the weekends. We mostly eat vegetarian meals. A couple of us do eat meat on a very rare occasion (3 or 4 times a year maybe).
The garden is great and we have a few veg and herb beds as well as some fruit bushes/trees and a greenhouse. Anyone that’s into gardening will be most welcome!
There’s quite a mix in the house – I’m Nick and I drive for Riverford Organic Foods and play a lot of competitive chess. I like a lot of my own space in the house but also enjoy cooking and catching up together over food. My partner is a self-employed psychotherapist who enjoys walking and swims in the river most days when the river allows. We rent 2 of the bedrooms and have one as a private living space to work and hang out in. Our housemate is a semi-retired gardener and handyman, who has lived a full and colourful life with many stories to tell. And then there’s Lenny, the loveable black Labrador. We’re aged between 46 and 75 – except Lenny, who is 7!!
Attributes in a housemate that would be good are reliable, decent, honest, warm, would like to get involved in house projects, has an open mind and enjoys a giggle.
