This room is available from the second half of January, either for 6 months over the summer or for longer. The rent works out at £125 per week.
It is a very large, nicely decorated and furnished, top floor double room with gorgeous en suite shower room. I can provide photos to show how nice the rooms are, but not really how big the bedroom is because it’s too big to get it all in one photo! The bedroom has a comfortable double bed, large desk, book case, two armchairs, coffee table, bedside cupboards, chest of drawers and large wardrobe. The room is so big that even with all this furniture it is still really spacious!
There is a hard-wired internet socket in the room, and wi-fi is also available.
The room is in the Live-in landlord’s own house and there is one other lodger. The house is near Lancaster railway station. It takes only a few (about 3!) minutes to walk to the buses in Common Garden Street. The campus of the University of Cumbria is a pleasant 15-20 minutes walk away. My street has a fantastic and very convenient little corner shop and the Tesco Express in King Street, Sainsbury’s Local in King Street and Chinese supermarket in Common Garden Street are are only a few minutes away. The Lancaster University Postgraduate Study Room at the Storey Institute is also very close by.
I am looking for a lodger who is quiet, considerate and friendly, preferably a vegetarian. (I would consider a non-vegetarian if they either don’t cook at all or would not cook meat/fish. I don’t like the smell of meat cooking!)
Kettle available in room, and use of large kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine are included. All bills are included (except council tax for non-students, see below) and clean bedding, towels, kitchen equipment, crockery, cutlery etc. are also available for use if wanted.
My house is quiet (no children!) and so the room would suit people who are also quiet and civilised – for example a postgraduate student or visiting researcher. I have one other tenant (post-doc researcher working at Lancaster University) and she also has an en suite shower room so everyone has their own facilities.
Rent quoted is for students as then no council tax is payable. Council tax of £40/month will be payable by non-students, on top of the rent, although that would currently be shared by my other lodger.
There is plenty of on-street parking available outside, although the residents’ parking scheme requires use of a resident’s permit, which is currently c.£25/year.
